Moody Bible Institute Names Next President

CHICAGO (Oct. 09, 2018) – Mr. Greg Thornton, interim president of Moody Bible Institute, along with Mr. Randy Fairfax, Board of Trustees chair, announced today the appointment of Dr. Mark Jobe as the 10th president of the historic and influential institution.

Dr. Jobe, a well-respected alum of Moody Bible Institute, is the founding pastor of New Life Community Church in Chicago. He grew up on the mission field in Spain and came to Moody Bible Institute at the age of 17. At 21, Dr. Jobe and a small congregation of 18 people began meeting on the Southwest side of Chicago with the mission to reach people from all walks of life with the gospel. The church has grown to more than 5,000 members meeting at 27 locations throughout Chicagoland, including eight cities internationally.

“With the appointment of Mark, the Search Committee and Board of Trustees firmly believe the Lord answered our prayers and those of everyone who have faithfully stood with us these last six months,” said Fairfax who served on the Search Committee. “His clarity of vision, humble nature, passion, and strong track record of ministry growth will bring a palpable energy to the Moody family. Coupled with his commitment to the Scriptures, personal integrity and prayerful approach, he will foster unity, trust and drive us forward in our mission to equip people in the truth of God’s Word to impact the world for Christ.”

This important search was led by a Moody team consisting of trustees, staff, faculty and alumni leadership. They were assisted by The Dingman Company, a renowned executive search firm known for their high profile leadership placements for missions-minded organizations around the country.

“I am honored and deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve as 10th President of this world-class Christian ministry,” said Dr. Jobe. “Moody has had a powerful spiritual impact on Chicago as well countless people throughout the world for over a century. It continues to have a strong passion to train men and women of character who are biblically-grounded, gospel-centered, full of faith and ready to be agents of change in this world.” He added, “My wife, Dee, and I are convinced we need this dynamic historic school in the heart of Chicago and its influence around the world more than ever before. I plan to lead Moody with an unwavering commitment to the Word of God and with a compassionate heart to impact our world with the love of God.”

In addition to pastoral ministry, Dr. Jobe founded New Life Centers in 2005, an organization that creates programs for underserved communities in Chicago focusing on youth violence, gang violence, teen pregnancy, justice system involvement, and unemployment. He is also the Moody Publishers’ author of Unstuck: Out of Your Cave into Your Call, and hosts the daily radio program Straight Talk on Moody Radio Chicago 90.1 FM.

He holds a diploma in Communications from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago (1984), a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from Columbia International University, a Master of Arts in Ministry from Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago (1998), and a doctorate in Transformational Leadership for the Global City from Bakke Graduate University.

As a valued Moody alum and partner with our radio and publishing ministries, Mark fully understands the value and impact of Moody’s education and media ministries and will be the perfect leader for Moody going forward.”

Dr. Jobe’s tenure as president for the 133-year-old Moody Bible Institute will begin on January 2, 2019.
