MONTGOMERY, Ill., Oct. 16, 2020 — Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity will break ground for its first Batavia homesite at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 Independence Drive in Batavia.

The public is invited. A brief ceremony will be followed by refreshments.

Barbara Zegiel, funds coordinator for Montgomery-based Habitat, said the home will be Habitat’s 68th house in the Fox Valley since Habitat’s founding in 1988.

Janice Owino of Aurora, the future homeowner with her husband George, is expected to attend. George is in Kenya due to travel restrictions imposed by the coronaviru.

Steven and David McCormick, president and vice president of Centennial Mortgage in Aurora, have pledged $175,000 to sponsor the Owino home. Steven McCormick is Habitat board chair. Centennial is celebrating its 25^th anniversary.

Founded in 1988, Fox Valley Habitat is a nondenominational Christian housing ministry based at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery. In addition to offices at Genesis, Habitat maintains a warehouse at 250 S. Highland Ave. in Aurora. Fox Valley Habitat is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an international Christian housing ministry.
