Statement Regarding Minneapolis Situation
The Fox Valley Christian Ministerial Alliance (FVCMA) raises its voice today in support of George Floyd and condemns the police brutality that led to his death. As Christians we believe that life is precious, that God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall have everlasting life. God instructs us to love our neighbor. The actions of the Minneapolis Police Department in denying George Floyd his constitutional right to due process and his God-given right to life must be condemned. We also urge the Minneapolis District attorney to issue arrests of the other three officers involved along with swift justice. FVCMA concur with the Bible that “no man has the right to take another man’s life.”
Pastor Mike Signorelli, of V1 Church New York, a few days ago said, “The new racism is actually the denial that racism still exists. The current climate in society is to ‘act like racism doesn’t exist, if we ignore it will go away.’” I agree it is time to look at racism straight in the face and address together.
Now is the time if we are to move forward from this tragedy to examine the issue of racism in our own hearts, in our institutions, and in our country. We call on all Christian leaders to open a dialogue in your congregations and with your local police department to address the issue of race and policing. We call on Christian leaders to work together in dialogue across differences to expand the conversation about how to work together to bring healing and peace to our communities.
For God, nothing is impossible!
In His service
Pastor Peggy Hicks
FVCMA President
