Aurora Boy Scouts to collect bikes for needy

AURORA, Ill., Jan. 10, 2021 —  Boy Scout Troop 57 at Grace Community Church in Aurora is looking for unwanted bicycles for people in need.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, from 10 to 2 p.m., Scouts will receive bikes in any condition at the church, 2770 Montgomery Rd. in Aurora.

As part of an Eagle Scout project, Scouts will refurbish bikes, if necessary, before forwarding them to Naperville-based WheelsForAll, a nonprofit.

Wheels for All Background

Wheels for All is a non-profit, student-led organization in Naperville that believes in providing free and reliable transportation to low-income families.

In July, Wheels donated 21 bikes to Simply Destinee, an Aurora dance troupe. According to Wheels founder Aaryan Menon, the group provided him with children’s names and brought in families to transport bikes from his home to Scullen Middle School.

Menon said, “I really love biking and the fact that some kids never had the chance to bike.

“It just really affected me emotionally so I just wanted to make an organization that helped the cause that I love doing each and everyday with my friends, family, going to school,” Menon said.
