Saturday Oswego unity rally affirms racial equality

OSWEGO, Ill., July 12, 2020 — More than 100 persons called for racial equality at an outdoor unity rally Saturday at Oswego Village Hall.
Oswego Presbyterian Church sponsored the 90-minute program. Nine speakers included local clergy, village officials, youth and adults.

Speakers included Troy Parlier, Oswego village president; J.R. Burgner, Oswego police chief; Rev. Richard Shaffer, pastor, Oswego Presbyterian Church; and Rev. Julian Spencer, North Aurora, pastor, Main Baptist Church, Aurora.

Attendees were asked to wear face masks and practice social distancing.

Rev. Shaffer said, “In response to God’s call and the racial divide which has gripped our country, Oswego Presbyterian Church is holding a community prayer rally to show the support of Christians throughout the Fox Valley area.

“The purpose of this rally is to bring our community together and affirm the desire to be inclusive, respectful, faith-driven and peaceful in taking action toward racial equality.”
