Habitat to hold Aurora car show July 25

MONTGOMERY, Ill., July 7, 2020 — Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity will hold a car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Habitat’s new ReStore parking lot, 2302 W. Indian Trail in Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

Awards, raffle prizes, a 50-50 raffle and refreshments are planned. Visitors are asked to wear face masks and practice social distancing. Cars will be spaced six feet apart.

Owners of all makes, models and any age of cars and trucks may register from 9 a.m. and noon on July 25. Registration is $15 per car.  All registered car owners will receive a ballot to vote for the top 20 vehicles, including one Best in Show Car and one Best in Show Truck. Twenty-two trophies sponsored by Carousel Sound will be awarded at the end of the day.

A disc jockey will play recorded 50’s music and take audience requests.

A fun fair for kids will include games. Tickets are $1 each, everyone wins a prize. Fifteen baskets will feature donations from Walmart, Target, Home Depot and Lowes.  Raffle tickets are $1.

Local food vendors will serve tacos, hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn and shaved ice cones.

Habitat’s ReStore, offering new and gently used home goods including flooring, tools, building materials and appliances, is tentatively scheduled to open in August.

Founded in 1988 in Aurora, Fox Valley Habitat is a affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, a worldwide Christian housing ministry. Since its inception, Fox Valley Habitat has helped 278 people and 69 families obtain housing in Aurora, North Aurora and Montgomery.

Habitat partners with residents in need of affordable shelter by building new homes with the recipients contributing sweat-equity investment and paying no-interest mortgages. Habitat’s current project, a duplex sponsored by area realtors and others, is underway at 829-831 Grove St. in Aurora. Based at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery, Habitat operates a warehouse in Aurora.
