Acclaimed Aurora pianist eschews music for pulpit

AURORA, Ill., Jan. 5, 2020 — Huntley Brown of Aurora, an internationally acclaimed Christian pianist, focused on preaching Sunday.

Brown, a Jamaica native, played one number before serving as guest preacher at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Aurora. His sermon topic was “Lessons from the Life of Bartimaeus.”

Brown recounted the story from the Gospel of Mark which tells how Jesus cured a blind beggar based on his faith.

According to Brown, lessons learned from Bartimaeus include: when opportunity knocks, it is not the time to prepare; to get some miracles, you have to be desperate; and perception is not necessarily reality.

Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Judson University in Elgin and a master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Northern Illinois University.

He was ordained a minister in 2007 by the Evangelical Church Alliance International where he serves on the board. Brown’s music ministry has taken him worldwide, with TV, radio and concert appearances.
